Saturday's main EVENT!!!

This morning we got up at 5 am for our kids first ever triathlon! Very exciting. We had to be at the Y at 6 a.m. all ready and set. This is before the triathlon, Ellie is throwing a little fit.Court's heat was first. He did so good on his swim. There were 8 boys in his heat and lots of them are on the swim team here at the Y, so Court started with a disadvandage because he's never had swimming lessons. Court is the very top one.

He swam his little heart out!!

Then he did great on the bike, he was passing some of the boys, doing awesome....until he had a huge wipeout. Apparently he was going super fast and hit a curb and flew over the handle bars and rolled down a hill. One of the volunteers told Jared about it later. But the wipeout didn't stop him, he got back on his bike and then finished up with the run.

This is how he felt after it was all said and done.......

Hailey was super nervous, but then Court ended up going before her, and then she met a girl that she became friends with and that helped her get a little confidence!!

Hailey hasn't taken any swim lessons either, so again we're starting at a disadvantage....

Hailey played catch-up on the bike, and then finished strong on the run!!!

We think she ended up 4th, just out of a finishing place...but she had lots of fun!!!

Carter wasn't so sure he wanted to do the triathlon, you were supposed to be 5 to do it, but they made an exception for Carter and they let me do the swim with him. He wasn't super fast, but he did it all by himself.

Then off on the bike....all by his lonesome...everyone was looong gone!! Jared ran along side of him, and when they got to the turn around spot Carter took the turn too sharp and had a wipeout!!! He hopped back on his bike and hussled along.

This picture makes me tear up because Carter was dead last, but Hailey and Court did the run with him. He ran so hard. Court eventually caught up to them.

On the homestretch.....

and a big finish with cheering from the crowd!!!!!

Ellie and Dad enjoying the triathlon!!!!!!!

It was such a great experience for the kids. It sure wasn't easy for them. We just had learned about the triathlon last week, so they didn't have any practice or anything. Hailey and Court were pretty upset that they didn't earn a trophy, but I'm kinda glad they didn't, gives them something to work towards. Can't wait for the race next year!!!

Yay! Good job to everyone! Looks like you guys had a blast! I hope to get our kids into that kind of stuff...Haylie LOVES to run. She got new tennies the other day and was running around in a circle in the living room singing, "I love to run. I love to run. I love to run." I guess she loves to run.... :)

I absolutly died laughing at your description of the wipeouts and then your picture of Court's sweet sad face. I needed that!

I'm so impressed! Bryan has done a few tris but we have never looked into them for the kids. What was the distance for each event? Way to go, Walkers!

I am so impressed, a triatholon seems like no picnic, my brothers kids did one this summer and his son hated but his daughter loved it. It is amazing what kids will do.
